Still Running Trails

On tuesday night I ran the Run Our Trails race for the month of august. This was my fourth straight trail race of the summer. I ran the four mile race in 39:19 which is a decent pace for a trail run.

This race was the best my knee has felt all summer where I could feel it on the downhills, but otherwise it felt great. The course was largely non-technical with rolling hills that were fairly runnable. My biggest struggle was catching myself a bit on a few of the steeper downhills.

With a busy september ahead of me, I might not get to another race until the next Run Our Trails Race on september 29th.

Fourth of July in Fairport

On the 4th of July I ran the four mile firecracker race in my own town of Fairport. I finished the course in 36:20 which is the second fastest of three times I have run this course.

The Fairport course starts with a very hilly first two miles in the blazing sun. The second half of the course flattens out a bit, and this year a sudden rain storm came in for my final mile. The rain was honestly pretty welcome and cooled off what had been a hot run.

My next race is the Run Our Trails race in Mendon Ponds on tuesday that had been postponed due to last week’s heat.

Four Miles on July Fourth

On the morning of the Fourth of July I ran the Fairport firecracker four mile road race. I ran the course in 32:45 which is a full four minutes quicker than when I last ran the same race in 2022.

The run (like every fourth of july race ever) was extremely warm. I got out to a real quick start despite most of the hills being on the first half. By the second half of the race the heat and the hills began to take their toll and I slowed down a bit. Even with a race as short as four miles, apparently you can’t just go all out the entire way. Still and 8:11 pace is a good amount quicker than I usually run or train at, and almost as fast as my pace for St. Greg’s which was a shorter race in better running weather.

Four miles is an unusual racing distance, but I do believe that this is my fastest four mile race ever.

Fairport Fourth of July

On the morning of the fourth of July I ran the Fairport Firecracker Four Mile. I finished the race in 36:48 which was quicker than roughly two thirds of the field. While I did run this event last year, this year’s course was a mile longer so there is not too much of a great comparison to be made.

The first half of the course had little to no shade, and most of the route’s hills. While my splits were probably pretty even, I was feeling rather drained after the first half. The second half of the course was along streets that I run often and was more protected from the sun.

My next race is coming up quickly and will be the 0SPF trail half-marathon next saturday.
